Be Well Series

Put on music you enjoy relaxing or unwinding to.

Watch, draw along with me, pause or just enjoy each video and draw on your own. There’s a link to a “step out” or instructions for each pattern in the text area for each day.

Have fun!

Join me on this fun 21-day drawing challenge in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month

May 2026

Day 1 - Begin by dotting each corner, connect the dots with a straight or wavy line, draw strings inside the border creating approximately 21 spaces.

First pattern: Flux

Pen sizes: Black micron 10, Pink micron 05

Day 2 - Pick a section to add your next pattern. I’m working on two separate papers and show you two options… but the possibilities are endless!

Pattern: Tipple - step out instructions

Pen sizes: Blue micron 005 (very fine tip), Black micron 10

Day 3 - Two variations of the same pattern. The one in green, you’ll notice that I don’t fill in the crescent shapes right away. I picked a very thin pen (005) and regretted it immediately! It would take a long time to fill in each one, so I pivoted and used the charcoal pencil to fill it in. That’s part of the process, when something doesn’t go your way, you can see an opportunity to do something else!

Pattern: Crescent Moon - Click HERE for step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05 & 10, Green micron 005

Day 4 - You’ll notice I switch back & forth from pen to pencil as my main drawing instrument - do what you like! I use a blender (tortillon) to blend the pencil lines when shading/drawing. You can use a Q-Tip if you don’t have one.

Pattern: Florz - step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black 10

Day 5 - Today’s pattern is a very organic and flowy one. I show you two variations of it, one is like a leaf shape and the other a berry shape. It’s a good one to use like a vine similar to “flux” or to fill in a big area.

Pattern: Pokeroot/Pokeleaf - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 10, Yellow micron 05

Day 6 - You will notice that I do not edit these videos, which gives the opportunity to see mishaps in real time! An opportunity was created in the black & white tile where I added a variation of the pattern “Bronx Cheer”. I’ve included the step out of it below as it is very useful when you need to “fix” something in your drawing. I also haven’t drawn “Cubine” in a long time, I love seeing the real human interaction with hesitation in. I hope this encourages you to keep going and keep trying!

Patterns: Cubine - Step out, Bronx Cheer - Step out

Pen sizes: Black micron 10, Blue .38

Day 7 - a quick little pattern that can fit anywhere. I hope you can put on some music and give yourself a day to rest your mind as you draw.

Pattern: Indy-rella - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05, Green .38

Day 8 - I used two different sizes of pens on the black and white tile. The different size creates a texture of sorts. You’ll also notice that I’ve been adding some details in between videos, but they will always be utilizing the patterns we’ve worked with so far. Have fun!

Pattern: Bales - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 10 & 05, Green .38

Day 9 - a versatile pattern that can be used as a “border” or to fill up a space.

Pattern: Keeko - step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05, Blue .38

Day 10 - I first add some elements of other patterns before starting with today’s pattern. Thinking ahead a couple of steps helps to create one pattern “going behind” another pattern. Notice how I don’t go over already existing lines.

Pattern: Tortuca - step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 03, Brown micron 01

Day 11 - Try starting your time drawing with a short breathing exercise and notice if that enhances your time creating!

Pattern: Shattuck - step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05 & 03, Brown micron 01

Halfway point Progress!

Day 12 - Today’s pattern is curvy and organic. No perfection here! I use it in its usual way in the black & white tile, and then in the color tile I play around with the shape it makes.

Pattern: Ravel

Pen sizes: Black micron 05 & 10, Blue .38

Day 13 - it’s been very cloudy in my part of the world the last two days. I think it’s only logical that this pattern turned into a sun of sorts! Sometimes we have to create our own light.

Pattern: Pepper - step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05 & 10, Yellow micron 05

Day 14 - This pattern is fun for high impact. I show you two variations of it, one that is very structured and one more open to interpretation. I didn’t plan to match up the lines with crescent moon until I started picturing them together as I began to draw in black. Happy drawing!

Pattern: Purk - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05, Green .38

Day 15 - I did a version of “cadent” that uses 3 points rather than 4. It is a variation of the original pattern. It’s fun to play with and the three points allows for a more playful and not so structured final product. You can also add all kinds of patterns inside of the spaces created by cadent. The possibilities are limitless! Have fun!

Pattern: Cadent - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 03, Brown micron 01

Day 16 - Today’s pattern is fun and challenging. I find that setting down a pencil spiraled line to begin it helps to give you direction. Take it slow and let the focus of drawing ease your mind!

Pattern: Marasu - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05 & 10, Orange micron 05

Day 17 - A free-flowing pattern that’s fun to watch morph! Mine morphed into another pattern, I’ve included instructions with both in case you want to experiment with it. I’ve also been adding details to my drawings in between videos.

Pattern: Munchin - Step out instructions

Paradox - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 10, Blue .38

Day 18 - Today’s pattern is a perfect example of how straight lines can create high impact. I love drawing straight lines, I get lost in the motion of the back and forth of this pattern. Enjoy the slowing down!

Pattern: hurry - Step out instructions

Pen sizes: Black micron 05, Pink micron 05

Day 19 - The great thing about doing creative challenges is that you can follow the plan laid out or do your own thing. Today I decided to go my own way! The pattern that was part of the plan for today is below if you’d like to give it a try.

Pattern: Rixty - Step out instructions (not in the video)

Pen sizes: Variety
